The Christian Reformation is something you’ve probably heard about if you’ve been around Christian circles for long enough.  You often hear about the key male figures and how they shaped the church.  But what about the women of that time?  What about the wives of the key male figures?  This book shares with us the lives of some lesser-known women and their faithfulness during this period in church history.

‘Reformation Women’ opens with this statement, “Women are an essential element in church history. Just as Sarah, Deborah, Esther, and the New Testament Marys helped shape Bible history, so the women of the Reformed church have helped to make its history great.”

I enjoyed reading the short biographies of the twelve women’s lives this book has chosen to focus on. Each biography is no more than 10 pages long. This makes it the perfect book for those who only have the time to read something brief and can then come back later for a totally different biography.

What a great encouragement this book was to me! It challenged me to think about what it looks like to live out my Christian faith as a woman, but also encouraged me that the mundanity of life can be lived to give God glory and be a witness and service to many others.

As a wife and mother, I enjoyed reading about Anna Adlischweiler:

“Her life remains a beautiful example of faithful love and self-sacrifice for God’s

people.  Though it must have seemed like drudgery to her at times, Anna’s work

brought comfort to hundreds each year, allowed young men to prepare for future

ministry, and enabled her husband to further the gospel cause in the place God had

          put this faithful couple.”
